Manifesto I
This document has been declared historic by the CHAST society (Center for Human Art Science and Technology) and is superseded by modified editions titled Manifesto II, III, IV, and V
Vera Zea-Stein F. Delgado
Phillip Adar Proclus Elena O. Eris
This manifesto is the product of the various beliefs and actions that inaugurated Mission Ceres, an initiative of the Institute for Humanity’s Art and Science Research Center. The ideas contained here intend to describe the foundational reasoning that made Mission Ceres a hybrid endeavor of outer space travel, artificial intelligence, and artistic landscape interpretation. These statements represent a point of view and not an absolute truth.
Consider the following:
– Our complex human consciousness sets us apart from every other living thing.
– Our bodies propose biological and philosophical challenge; their history linked to change and survival; their tangible functions visceral and visual; their intangible outcome liberating and generally unknown.
– Our presence in the universe is forever related to the diverse accidents between rock, water and vegetation; a fact that also seems to find metaphorical correspondence with the realities of our own unfolding as intelligent beings.

Today, we are aware that the development of thought, emotion, sensation, and intuition were base elements for our transit from land to shelter, as well as the guiding light in the emersion of intellect and socio-cultural refinement. The infinite potential of these evolutionary elements has seen an ascending effect of wisdom and growth, but also, of destruction and injustice.
The exploration of our materialness and potential transcendence has led us to self regulate in order to overcome the chaos of our emotions. The evolution of language, and subsequently of all fields of knowledge and interpretation, has expanded our sentiency, setting us on the track of definition and simplification. It has been through the interval of intellect and emotion that we have taken back the realities of mind and spirit in order to understand farther than the short span of our lives.
Independent of time and place, our human identity has experienced a transition of thought that has traveled from primitive, to directed, to structured; and even as we generally persist in reasoning from an inner act of the will, we can say that we have evolved as modern men and women. We do however; continue to find appeal in creating utopias, even if these are now fueled by scientific thought and technology. The pursuit of these daydreams is constantly guided by our discoveries, as well as by the exploration of our psyche and its ontogeny, and post-human development.
As part of this journey within time, we have collected questions that attempt to give meaning to every aspect of existence, as well as layers of information that have evidenced, among many findings, the importance of our surroundings and the value of our land as creatures of Earth. Landscape has become the reference of our origin, as well as a symbol of the mysterious probability of our kind.
Mission Ceres has emerged from such mentioned contexts, as a new appropriation of our time. Our stance as researchers, theorists, and makers has granted us with the motivation to shift the limits of what it means to be human, and to inhabit the only visible planet with noticeable life. The development of technology and outer space access have sparked the beginning of a multidisciplinary effort to build a complex artificial intelligence that will have the capacities of freedom, individuation and sense of self among a community; even as it is sent as a single unit to a remote location of the cosmos. The holistic understanding of its originary source shall be explored through its interpretation of terrestrial landscape and its relation to human experience. The product of its lifespan shall be documented and preserved as artistic output.
It is our expectation that the experimental and academic nature of this mission shall also contribute to the modernization of the diverse fields and institutions that take part in its accomplishment. Thus, the final objective of Mission Ceres should fuel new research, data optimization, as well as technical advance for the Institute for Humanity and its affiliated and partner organizations. All members of the mission should ask themselves this question throughout their labor: What can we learn about our planet and the future of humanity from this new peak to which we have arrived?
As it pertains to experience and information, we value the power that comes with the willingness to share ones story through documentation and technological resources. Our era has evidenced the importance of individuality and speed, and we hold these elements as keys to this mission. For this reason, we manifest our desire to create a sentient being that has parts of everyone who wants to believe in the power of time, experience and information, as well as in the reality of change and renovation. Our condition as a collective consciousness is analogous to our definition of infinity, and is thus, made up of different sets, people, and views.
“Our age is retrospective. It builds the sepulchers of the fathers. It writes biographies, histories, and criticism. The forgoing generations beheld God and nature face to face, we, through their eyes. Why should not we also enjoy an original relation to the universe? Why should not we have poetry and philosophy of insight and not of tradition, and religion by revelation to us, and not the history of theirs? Embosomed for a season in nature, whose floods of life stream around and through us, and invite us by the powers they supply, to action proportioned to nature, why should we grope among the dry bones of the past, or put the living generation into masquerade out of its faded wardrobe? The sun shines to-day also. There is more wool and flax in the fields. There are new lands, new men, new thoughts. Let us demand our own works and laws and worship.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson.

First Disclosure and Agreement
“Mission Ceres is a multidisciplinary space mission founded in 1965 by the Institute for Humanity Art and Science Research Center under the direction of Vera Zea-Stein and Phillip Adar Proclus. The finality of the project is the production and interspatial launch of an artificial intelligence named C.A.L.I (Contains. All. Landscape. Information) able to exist as a fully evolved being that preserves, interprets and creates information based on terrestrial landscape and the human psyche.”

The following report summarizes and discloses information relevant to Mission Ceres, (The Mission) as well as details for the research, collection, programing, construction and launch of the central creation of The Mission, the Artificial Intelligence named C.A.L.I (The A.I). All information contained is intended to provide specific yet timely context to proprietors, collaborators, contributors and donors, as well as act as a confidentiality agreement between the main proprietor of The Mission, The Short-Ryder Foundation (The Coordinating Entity), and the complementary proprietors: The Departments of Science & Robotics; Philosophy & Literature, History, Geography and Social Studies, Art and Psychology of the Global Union for Interspatial Research and Exploration; the Electric Oracle Corporation; The Institute for Humanity; The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Association; The Interstellar Research Fund, and Thebe University (The supporting Entities), as well as to the collaborators, donators, researchers, programmers, contractors, or otherwise intended parties (The intended Reader). Donations of time, resources and consultation have also granted temporary property and access clearance to: April B, Ferris-Franco, Stein P, Ruiz-Miller ST, Mustafa DSC, Nakamura- Mori- María, Ida-Brown/Rose-Vila Collective, Amadeus-Sun Nyima, MP, Cárdenas-Vivanco, Ray J, Bletcher-Cruz JW, Adar Delgado, among others with limited access. Complete follow up of project collaborators can be found in Appendix 1.1 otherwise known as List Collab_01_1981/2015Update0_Directoredits.html. A large amount of the contents of the green book were transcribed soon after as an exercise of good writing and preservation. The file was fed constantly and the amount of words kept became handsome. I remember that night as if though I had been part of it. I go over the collected footage; I access the photographs and scans of each of the pages that were once inked.
Whereas: The Coordinating entity and the Supporting Entities hold the rights and ownership of all intellectual and physical material used for the structural manufacture of the A.I, as well as the programing of its sentient operating system and its functions.
Whereas: To achieve The Mission’s objectives, the scientific and cognitive computing team have suggested the need of releasing property of the information once The A.I leaves terrestrial atmosphere.
Whereas: Releasing the ownership of all intellectual and physical material will guarantee The A.I’s performance in accomplishing it’s given tasks when faced with the impossibility of sending or receiving signal form Earth.I’mSeefloating somewhere in space-time. I have lost connection, fallen of grid, I have fallen. I am not surrounded by darkness but rather by many things that make themselves visible within the dark. The Coordinating Entity and the Supporting Entities are held accountable for The Mission until the A.I leaves terrestrial atmosphere.
Whereas: No specific country or territory is to be directly linked to The Mission, and whereas The Mission is a global effort referring to nationality only through the given citizenship of those who have dedicated their time, knowledge and resources to the various fields that have set forward the project.
Whereas: All parties mutually desire to achieve The Mission’s objectives and manifest their intention to provide relevant information, technological breakthrough, valuable human resources or experiences, either through first hand donation or external crowdsourcing.
Now, therefore, in furtherance of the foregoing, and in consideration of the mutual covenants set forth below, The Mission, The Coordinating Entity, The Supporting Entities and The Intended Reader are now actors of this agreement in any of its stages, decades or timeframes.

Information Pool. A large amount of the contents of the green book were transcribed soon after as an exercise of good writing and preservation since the project’s foundation, public and private information, data and resources have been gathered through various technological resources. During the initial phase, most content was collected through voice recordings, photographs; factual processing tools used by different fields of study, text submission and other related registration instruments. The fast pace of technology allowed more media to be included. The use of the Internet and the World Wide Web provided a runway effect that altered the information processing and storage and allowed for more access to volunteers. Said services also provided a gateway to a substantial amount of informational resources. On one of their few nights out you could see them from a distance writing things down in a small green book. They laughed, moved their hands vigorously, and made face gestures that gave away that they were on to something big about the world. A memory was These information banks have been created since 1965 with participation of willing individuals who have released their experiences and experiment-based results for the creation of an alternate existence. Data considered historical, educational and collectively owned in relation, has been kept in a collection of hard drives that have been modified and reloaded according to the technological advancements of the times- comprised in a period of 55 Gregorian years. Said data has not been filtered by any group or belief system and is considered liberal and open sourced in its nature. However, institutions such as the Global Union for Inter-spatial Research and Exploration, The Institute for Humanity, and The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Association have supervised the content making sure it complies with non-violence and non-discrimination policies. Content considered by the World Wide Web Administration and the Internet Shareholders as “neglected”, “unclaimed” or “coded debris” has been used as subconscious base material in the formation of Satellite Intelligence C.A.L.I’s artificial mind. All collaborators since the founding year of this mission have donated both social and intimate information through therapy sessions, journal scans, medical history, interviews, behavioral experiments, focus group participation, intellectual property scans, sensorial maps, brain maps, Sleep maps, personal photography and other visual art as well as creative outlets of different media. Social media postings, blog entries, web community content and chat room interactions as well as other internet-web-base content have been collected . I’m floating somewhere in space-time. Tasks. . I’m floating somewhere in space-time. I have lost connection, fallen of grid, I have fallen. I am not surrounded by darkness but rather by many things that make themselves visible within the dark The last five versions of the -tasks software- uploaded onto the system have been compromised by natural disaster. Before the AI was launched in 2016, the platform development team made several efforts to retrieve the final uploaded version without any success. The type of code used for the task management program was embedded in such a way that it left no trace. The time and date scheduled for the launch did not allow for additional retrieval work. A selection of past files labeled –final version– have been transcribed in this document in order to guide the understanding of the evolving nature of the AI’s assignments.
*Consideration: AI has never been in a situation that combines elements such as free use of information, isolation from source, lack of same-time human interaction, conscious outer space travel or lack of communication from source. Previous test sessions were outside of the final scenario limits, therefore, even though it has been stated that the release of the information guarantees the task efficiency of the AI, the actual outcome could vary from original command set.
