A Waiting Forest was an installation done for UCSD Open Studios 2020. Working with Chris Johnson, the Landscape and Garden custodian of E. Roosevelt College, I installed diverse native California trees and mulch from the UCSD nursery at the Visual Arts Facility. These trees are meant to be planted on campus, but because of construction and a neoliberal mindset, more trees end up being cut than planted.
The installation was accompanied by a sound piece narrated by my voice. The conversation is a transcript from the crew of Apollo 8 upon taking ‘Earthrise’, the first photograph of our planet taken in 1968.
